A broad spectrum of skin manifestations has been reported in association with SARS-CoV-2 infection, covering almost all inflammatory patterns.

In addition, the worldwide recognition of savannah-like acral lesions has generated confusion and controversy among dermatologists. The finding of lesions similar to savannah in multiple case series of patients with documented COVID-19, together with early reports of detection of SARS-CoV-2 infection and a strong expression of interferon type I in these skin lesions, suggest a pathophysiological relationship beyond the temporal association.

It has been debated whether all patients with skin manifestations of COVID-19 need dermatological care, especially in cases of possible nonspecific skin reactions, such as morbidity or hives associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection.
